In March 2020, in response to the coronavirus outbreak and sudden loss of work across the theatre industry, theatreWashington announced the Taking Care COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund to provide grants to theatre professionals who face financial hardship from closings, postponed productions, and other lost wages.

As of October 2020, thanks to generous support from as many as 1,000 donors, nearly 600 grants have been distributed to Washington, DC-area theatre professionals.

At a time with much uncertainty, one thing is clear: the #dctheatrecommunity is strong, creative, generous, and resilient. But unfortunately, we know that the need persists and it likely will for some time and that the needs are shifting - from short-term, paycheck continuity relief to longer-term planning for things like rent coverage, debt relief, and medical care. We are committed to keeping the Fund open - for applications and donations - for as long as the community needs it and have announced an increase in the amount of the individual grants -- now up to $5,000 with an expected average of $1500 per individual grant.

Please help us meet our new goal of $500,000 to support our area’s theatre professionals.

theatreWashington is a 501c3 organization. The amount of your donation to the Taking Care Fund is tax-deductible. If you have any questions or would like further information about the Taking Care Fund, please contact Amy Austin, CEO, theatreWashington at aaustin@theatrewashington.org.
