theatreWashington’s Taking Care Fund was established to provide emergency assistance to Washington-area theater professionals in times of unforeseen financial hardship. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have opened the Fund for grants to theater professionals who face financial hardship from closings, postponed productions, organizational furloughs, layoffs, and other lost wages.
Generous patrons, audience members, philanthropists, family foundations, theater lovers, and theater practitioners have contributed to the Fund–with donations ranging from $10 to $25,000–and we, as a community, are so grateful. With our first round of fundraising, we’ve been able to fulfill hundreds of grant requests from theater-makers in need, and they’ve let us know that your support means the world to them.
We know that the path to re-opening our doors safely is not short-term and, unfortunately, we anticipate more need from theater professionals. We are here to support this community for the long haul. We are announcing a new goal of $330,000 for this vital Fund,
because it’s clear the community is going to need it. Every dollar raised through this fundraiser will be allocated to direct relief to theater professionals in need at this time.
At a time with much uncertainty, one thing is clear: The #dctheatre
community is strong, creative, generous, and resilient. And we’ll get through this together.
